How to convert audio to text
- 01
Open a recording
MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and almost any other sound file — or a video. The language is detected by itself.
- 02
Transcribe on your device
Speech recognition runs in your browser, so the recording never leaves it. Words appear as they're recognised.
- 03
Check and download
Listen along, fix words and name the speakers, then download Word, PDF or TXT — or copy the text.
Why use Cutlia for this
Speakers labelled
Each voice gets its own colour and label. Rename “Speaker 2” to “Dr. Novak” and it changes in every paragraph.
Listen while you read
The waveform shows where you are; click a word to jump there; slow down to 0.75× or speed up to 2×.
Documents and subtitles
Download a Word document or PDF to share, plain text or Markdown for notes, SRT or VTT to caption it. PDFs are right in every script, Arabic to Chinese.

Works in 100 languages
The spoken language is detected by itself, and speech in any of them can be turned into English. Accuracy is best in the most widely spoken ones.

Frequently asked questions
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The sound is read and transcribed by your browser on your own device, so interviews, meetings and voice notes stay private. Only the speech recognition itself is downloaded, once.
Can I transcribe voice memos from my phone?
Yes. iPhone voice memos are M4A files, and Android recorders usually save M4A or MP3 — both open directly. You can also open this page on the phone itself.
How accurate is it?
Very accurate for clear speech. Loud music, people talking over each other or a distant microphone make it harder — then a few words may need fixing, which you can do right in the transcript.
Can it transcribe recordings in other languages?
Yes, in 100 languages — all of them are listed on this page. The language is detected automatically, and you can add an English translation of any of them. Accuracy is best in the most widely spoken languages.
Where are my transcripts saved?
In this browser, on this device: your recent transcripts are listed when you come back, and you can delete any of them. Nothing is stored online.
Is it really free?
Yes. Cutlia is free to use with no account, no trial and no watermark on your export. The site is paid for by the ads on it, and your files never leave your device.
