How to remove silence from a video

  1. 01

    Open your video

A talking video — a vlog, a lesson, a podcast with video, a screen recording with your voice.

  2. 02

    Let it find the silences

The quiet parts are found at once and cut, with a little room left around your words. Turn on the AI to cut “um”s and “uh”s too.

  3. 03

    Review and download

Play it through with the cuts, keep any part you want back, then download the MP4.

Why use Cutlia for this

Instant, nothing uploaded

Silences are found from your video's sound as soon as it opens — on your device, however long the video.

Cuts “um” and “uh” too

Turn on the AI and speech recognition on your device finds the hesitations and the pauses between words, and cuts them.

Your pace

Natural, snappy or fast jump cuts — or fine-tune the shortest pause, the room around speech and the silence level.

Every cut reviewable

See the cuts on the timeline, play the result, and keep any part with one click before you export.

Frequently asked questions

How does it find the silences?

It measures how loud your video is, moment by moment, and sets the silence level from your own recording — under your voice, above the room's noise. Quieter stretches longer than the shortest pause are cut, a little kept before and after your words.

Can it remove “um” and “uh”?

Yes. Turn on “Cut “um”, “uh” and other fillers”: speech recognition on your device listens for hesitations and the pauses between words, and cuts them. Real words like “so” or “like” are never cut.

Will it cut off my words?

No — a little room is kept around speech, and you set how much. Every cut can be reviewed and kept. If quiet words get cut, lower the silence level.

Can I finish the edit in Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut?

Yes. “For your video editor” downloads the cuts as an EDL (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid) or FCPXML (Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve): open it there and link it to your original file.

Does it work with audio files?

Yes — drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A or other sound file and download the result as MP3, M4A or WAV.

Does it work on long videos?

Yes. Finding the silences is quick even for an hour-long recording; finding the fillers takes longer — about as long as transcribing the video.

Is it really free?

Yes. Cutlia is free to use with no account, no trial and no watermark on your export. The site is paid for by the ads on it, and your files never leave your device.
