Frequently asked questions
How much can I reduce the file size?
Phone recordings often shrink by 50–80% with little visible difference. The result depends on the original bitrate, resolution and how much motion is in the video.
How do I compress a video for Discord?
Choose the Discord preset. Cutlia calculates the bitrate needed to fit under Discord's upload limit and lowers the resolution only if necessary.
Why does the email preset aim for 18 MB, not 25 MB?
Attachments grow by about a third when an email is sent, so a 25 MB limit like Gmail's really fits files of about 18 MB. The preset keeps your video under that, so it goes through.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Cutlia processes your video directly in your browser using WebAssembly and your device's hardware. The file never leaves your computer or phone, so it stays completely private.
Is it really free?
Yes. Cutlia is free to use with no account, no trial and no watermark on your export. The site is paid for by the ads on it, and your files never leave your device.
